Job Description

The Volunteer Services Specialist assists the Volunteer Services Manager in coordinating the daily operations of Volunteer Services. The incumbent assists with volunteer recruitment, screening, training, communications, recognition, and collaborates with various departments to support their needs.

  1. Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  2. Coordinates day to day operations of volunteer programs including first line of contact with volunteers: Manages department email account, provides support to volunteers when needed, ensures program requirements are met, and maintains volunteer data.
  3. Collaborates with departments throughout the Park District to address the organization’s needs and create meaningful volunteer opportunities.
  4. Works with Volunteer Manager to recruit, interview, and train new volunteers, and provide ongoing continuing education to existing volunteers. Coordinates mentor program where applicable.
  5. Develops content for newsletters and other regular communications. Assists with revisions to program guides and training presentations.
  6. Assists in the planning and facilitation of annual and on-going volunteer recognition activities.
  7. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  8. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  9. Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)
  10. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Wage
$18.91 - $23.64 per hour
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Communications or related field supplemented by three years of experience in administration, human resources or volunteer services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
  • Experience working with and/or coordinating volunteers preferred.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; experience using Volgistics and Constant Contact preferred.
  • Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

The Commission on Service and Volunteerism is seeking an individual to perform the following duties:

  • Plan and coordinate Service Project Grants, including: MLK Day, Global Youth Service Day, ServeOhio Day and Make a Difference Day.
    • Oversee all aspects of the grants process, including: outreach, applicant review and financials.
  • Plan and coordinate Get Connected (Statewide Volunteer Engagement Platform).
    • Approve new Get Connected accounts.
    • Run activity reports.
    • Onboard new partner organizations.
    • Conduct online demos for new partners and development of training manual.
    • Serve as staff contact for all Get Connected issues.
    • Create Get Connected partner newsletter and communications. 
    • Oversee statewide National Days of Service and other initiatives.
  • Plan and coordinate ServeOhio Awards.Provide training and technical assistance.
    • Oversee ServeOhio Awards process, including: outreach, applicant review and awards presentations.
  • Assist with planning and management of annual Ohio Conference on Service & Volunteerism.
  • Assist with developing volunteer engagement content for social media, newsletters and website.
  • Develop and post content for the ServeOhio Blog.
